Fencing becomes formalized and joins the Olympics
In 1896 the Amateur Gymnastics and Fencing Association drew up a formalized set of regulations and in that same year the Olympics held in the summer of 1896 held in the Athens fencing was an event though Epee was not included. Foil was also absent later in 1908, but other than these two instances the three forms of fencing have been a part of the Olympics since 1896.
