Mythos
Mythos is the ruling Power of the Cultural Domain in [5] The Five Domains of human power. Mythos is the human power to assign meaning to Symbols and, from symbols, create Story to represent the both the real world and our experience of it, and inner worlds and experiences. Thus, Mythos powerfully connects Pathos — the power of emotion internalizing the external and externalizing the interior — and Ethos — the power of social structure. This power underlies all forms and products of culture including language, arts & media, music, material culture and technology, at least in their symbolic meaning and narrative context. Anything empowered by Mythos can be considered Mythology — not in the sense of being fictitious — but in the sense of having portable, symbolic meaning that weaves users into the same contextual story. In this way, even popular science, generally accepted as factual, has a mythological component empowered by Mythos.
In the [5] The Equipping Gifts framework, Mythos is handled by the Shepherd on the Liberal side and by the Evangelist on the Righteous side and is the nurturing Root of the Apostle. This means that Shepherds will often work creatively with people to manage their Mythos symbols and story for their Shalom; their nurture, wholeness and health. Similarly, Evangelists will equip people to use Mythos symbols and stories with accuracy so they can achieve personal and social Victory. Mythos feeds the gift of the Apostle in a very deep way, seasoning and adjusting the magnitude of the Mission in the Apostle.
