Mágoulo’s School for the Spiritually Gifted

Mágoulo’s School for the Spiritually Gifted (MagSchool) is a homeschooling experiment in integrated family learning. Families form a PraxCom (a Community of Practice) where members of every age learn together by doing things together.

About MagSchool

MagSchool uses the Project-based Learning (PBL) as the foundation of our school. Learning starts with interests and then proceeds to project planning and execution which both stir up questions that must be answered by active inquiry and hands-on skill development. The learning process is solidified as learners make real, positive impacts on their lives and the world. Information schemas are structured according to Systematics, especially as they relate to the Semantic Ontology Framework (SOF).

Objectives:

  • Have fun playing and enjoying great games, deep-diving great media and stories, and building awesome projects.
  • Build real-world (IRL) skills and competencies that emphasize the human as a complete person: spirit, soul, and body.
  • Help people grow in spirit, soul, and body to develop greater agency and deeper responsibility for self and others. We define Spirituality as “high and deep being” and believe the development of our spiritual selves unlocks the authentic potential of soul and body (not necessarily religious, but could be).
  • Walk alongside people as they navigate the digital world (the emerging meta-verse), learning to sustainably use (rather than be used by) media, social networks, automation systems, cybernetics and other complex systems in technology.
  • Teach systems thinking and strategies for designing, developing, and sustaining better systems. The basis of our systems thinking teaching is the Semantic Ontology Framework (SOF).
  • Train and deploy empowered people to live and act missionally in response to the challenges of their lives and times for the common good and, when possible, their own benefit.

MagSchool Meta and Lore

MagSchool was originally developed is a place and storyline within the SparkQuest Universe story and game (played on the SparkQuest Minecraft Server). In the game, Bezalel Mágoulo founded the school after an apocalypse to educate promising students from New City and the Outlands and to recruit them and prepare them for the covert TAVA Project.

Mag School was first housed in the Mágoulo family mansion (1496, 63, 453) in the forest to the west of New City on the E-land SparkQuest STF map. The school is a Protected Map Region: mag_school by WorldGuard and mob-spawning, PvP fighting, and altering blocks is prohibited except were sub-regions are owned by individual players and groups.
