SOF Symbology
SOF Symbology tracks the symbols for use the in the Semantic Onotology Framework (SOF).
SOF 3.1
Version 3.1 introduces more disciplined symbol use and these legends of symbols:
Frame Characters
element | meaning | spec |
---|---|---|
α | Alpha | any lower case alpha, distinguished from “a”, pref. U+03B1 |
β | Beta | any lower case beta, distinguished from “b”, pref. U+03B2 |
🠂, 🠀 | Assertion, Assertive | simple arrow, line head (vs. solid), in any direction; see U+1F802, U+1F800, and others |
⤚, ⤙ | Reception, Receptive, Receptivity | simple “y” shaped “end arrow” in any direction; see U+291A, U+2919 and others |
◯ | world, person, position | Circle used symbolically, not as derivative of a Frame1; see U+25EF |
△ | entity, power, spirit, symbol | Triangle used symbolically, not as derivative of a Frame2; see U+25B3 |
□ | structure, system | Square used symbolically, not as derivative of a Frame3; see U+25A1 |
⅄ | Reference Frame | Upside down “Y” symbol, or three lines showing a corner in 3-D Euclidean space; see U+2144 |
Geometric Frame Elements
Specifications: Sizes are listed relative to their size in the standard Console version (currently 1056px x 816px @ 96 DPI). Colors are 8 digit hex colors.
element | meaning | spec | example |
---|---|---|---|
sight line | a connection between elements whose relationship can be readily perceived and/or directly managed | 1px solid line, cdcdcdf9 | example |
force line | a connection between elements upon which a force is acting | 1px dashed line with mid-point triangle arrow, cdcdcdf9 | |
force-sight line | a connection between elements upon which a force is acting and where the relationship can be readily perceived and/or directly managed | 1px solid line with mid-point arrow, cdcdcdf9 | |
status-sight line | a connection between elements that is structural and required to keep the system in status. | 1px solid line with mid-point square, cdcdcdf9 | |
pointer | points from label to element | 0.2px solid line with or without 45deg angles, 4d4d4dff | |
Console & Navigation Elements
Console & Navigation elements are items in the Frame that provide commentary, link to additional information, or provide navigation to other content or Frames. Generally, they are indicated by the RGBA color Medium Blue, 80% alpha: 88b6fccb (216/95/76/80).
element | meaning | spec | example |
---|---|---|---|
child line | a connection from a parent element to its derivative or child. | .5px solid line, 88b6fccb | |
nav superscript | a superscript letter, number, or symbol on a element or label. t = tag, s = search | superscript character, 88b6fccb | |

- This means the shape is used in an intentional, symbolic way to evoke the meaning and not simply as part of a frame or a incidental part of a pattern made by different elements. For example, the shape may be used to label the position of an element in a Frame to indicate what type of thing the element is. However, if to two geometrical lines in the pattern of a Frame overlap and make the shape, this does not necessarily evoke the same meaning. When a
