SparkQuest Economy

SparkQuest Economy is the economic system for the SparkQuest Universe. It includes two components: in-game interactions in Minecraft on the SQ game servers, and in the activities of the UK website. These components allow for the following eight categories of economic activity:

Minecraft

In-Game

There are four main economic things you can do in game:

Shop

Find NPCs around the map who will sell, buy, or trade items with you.

Work

Get a job at the Crack Coal Mine, Benson Farm, or The Lumber Camp.

Develop

Build things on your own or with others either in the city or the Outlands and sell your creations or buildingservices.

Hunt

Head to the outlands to find treasure, hunt mobs, or scavange materials then come back to the city to sell them (don’t tell Judi).

Explore our Server to find these opportunities.

UnusualKingdom.com

Website

There are four main economic things you can do on our site:

Points

Earn points for posting, commenting, and learning that convert into game dollars.

Sell

Buy and sell rare or precious items to other members of the community.

Real Estate

All types of properties (houses, land, buildings) can be bought and sold in the city or the Outlands.

Jobs

Find a long term job or make a proposal on an RFP and get a fat contract for you or your crew.

Check out the Economy Forum for these activities.

In-Game Economy

Shops: You’ll find shops manned by NPCs around New City, and even a few beyond. These shops sell food, hardware, materials, tools, equipment, and more. Almost anything you can think of. (Well, actually there are a lot of things that they aren’t allowed to sell, but you can find places that sell these if you know where to look. Don’t tell Judi!) You can buy many things from these shop owners with the money you earn working. If you’re rich in materials, but not in cash, you can often find NPC shopkeepers who will buy these items off you and a few that might make a trade.

Jobs: You already know about Benson Farm and the Crack Coal Mine where you can work and get paid. You might also check out the lumber camp outside the city walls to the East beyond the Red Sands. When you’re ready to upgrade to better paying jobs, there is plenty to do (more on that later). And you can always work as a hunter or scavenger in the Outlands (though some of what you might bring back Judi would like to know about).

Properties: While buying properties is handled on this site, developing them — making improvements that add value to them — is done in game. Investing in property with potential and then spending creativity, time, and energy to fix it up and make it awesome is one of the best ways to build wealth. If you have knack for making cool places, you can really make a lot for your crafting efforts when you sell what you develop.

Economy on The UK Site

SitePoints: website members can complete tasks on the website to earn SitePoints, powered by the Gamipress WordPress plugin. SitePoints are awarded for posting articles, commenting on articles, interacting on the forum, and completing courses. These points can later be converted to in-game currency to enhance gameplay.

We have a dedicated forum — SparkQuest Economy — to handle the more complex types of business. Any member of the community — player, crafter, or SysOp — can post an item to this discussion board to do business together. Sell or buy precious or rare items or real estate. Find a job to earn some dough or submit a proposal to win a contract for the big-bucks.

Selling Items: To sell an item, simple begin your post with “FOR SALE” — all CAPS — and then the name of what your item is. In the body of the post, describe your item, its condition, its price and post a picture. You should also say up front whether your item is first-come-first-serve (first buyer to offer the price wins) or auction (bidder to post the highest offer during certain period of time wins). Potential buyers will see your post and can ask questions or put in an offer.

Selling Real Estate: Because selling property in New City requires some SysOp level powers, all real estate sales (houses, apartments, land, etc.) requires the use of licensed New City Realtors. Realtors will help you get your property ready to sell, or if you’re buying, will help you find a place to meet your needs. They’ll walk you through the process every step of the way — and most of it happens on the discussion forum. Posts for buying/selling real estate begin with the type of property: “HOUSE:,” “LAND:,” “BUILDING:,” “FACTORY:,” “STORE:,” etc.

Jobs: If you have something you’d like to pay somebody to do, create a post with “JOB:” as the beginning of the title. Make sure you include details about your expectations and the pay details of your offer (how much/when).
