SysInno

SysInno is short for System Innovation or Systems Innovator — a term we created as an alternative for “hacking” and “hacker” because Blackout/BlackoutKnight hates the later terms because of their over-use and the dilution of their meaning in popular thought. Hacking has come to mean any “cheap and easy” approach that gets results for the user (see “skin care hack”) and is marketed as being disruptive, even if it is actually totally mainstream. This departs significantly from The Hacker Ethic, which — while it likes simple, elegant solutions to complex problems — does not see itself as creating “cheap and easy” solutions sold by meme. Rather, it focuses on confronting problems and barriers with a systems-thinking approach that emphasizes collaboration, play, and flanking strategies to confront obstacles that would typically erode or oppress individual power.
