What if a learner is stuck in area 3: What (external)?
Sometimes, learners won’t feel like they are ready to transition from Inquiry (Planning It) to Praxis (Doing It) — the root problem is they don’t yet have sufficient belief that they can move from consumption of information and planning into actual production of the project. They might indicate anxiety or seem to loose interest at this point. The problem is generally that they need further eduction in at least one area:
- Eduction of personal capacities: they haven’t spent time uncovering their abilities in a safe space so they gain confidence that they can move forward. Try breaking off an early piece of the project process and doing it with them, then spend time analyzing with them what was revealed about their own capacity.
- Eduction of information framework: the information is overwhelming them because they have not developed their own way of decomplexifying the information to make it manageable. Ask them to research how other people have organized the information. Then, help them break the information apart, categorize it, and develop a framework to make it manageable.
- Eduction of project process: the process of completing the project seems too complex and cumbersome. It helps for the learner to outline the process by analogy — based on another process they are familiar with. Let them know its ok to mark parts of the process as unknown to be planned later and move ahead. They can always look for help from someone knowledgeable as the process unfolds and they might figure out a crucial step once they get more experience with the project.
Doing further eduction will help the learner uncover their own ability while they also discover solutions for the progress of their project.
