Awakened Village is a spiritually inspired community of families located in North NJ. They were founded from connections in the homeschooling and alternative health sub-cultures, and they like to take innovative and divergent pathways in education, economics, healthcare, and family life. To this end, they founded a homeschooling learning center where some of the community families gather 4 days per week to collaborate on education.

Many families in the group are interested in changing their relationship to screens — especially social media and gaming. Their main concerns seem to be negative content online, wasting time that could be used more productively, and the risks to brain formation and mental health over the long term.

Mr. Vasquez is our primary point of contact there. We pitched him helping him launch a mission-based campaign among the youth members of the community, ages 8-14. The project would involve this age group working to recruit more youth, families, and adults to limit screen time or alter their screen time. It would involve the youth making media, gathering “challenge pledges”, and earning points in a gamification system for each action.

At this point Mr Vasquez is thinking broadly about the vision for the campaign. We’ll take his ideas and create a participation pitch for the youth — some media based presentation that the youth can use as a tool to inspire their involvement and recruit others.

I added the following Campaign Criteria to the course page. Thought I’d repost here:

    • Kick-off Jan 7, 2024 — one engagement each week after
    • Member (kid) driven process, activities, assets, and outcomes
    • Engaging to ages 8-14 — any through them connected adults
    • Building on Mr. V’s vision input
