I wanted to set up a PC connected to the TV in our family room to use for a learning center. We had an old gaming computer in storage that I wanted to use for this purpose. The problem was the computer’s start switch was busted. We tested it for continuity using an electric meter set to ohms, but at both positions of the switch, the meter showed 1 — the resistance was too high for measurement — in other words no continuity, a broken circuit and bad switch. If the switch had been able to close the circuit, the meter would show something similar to 0.00; the setting when the ends of the probes touch together.
So we fixed it by cutting off the switch’s connector, stripping the two wires of the switch and twisting them together to make a jumper. This worked to get the computer started, but we had to immediately pull the jumper off once it started or the jumper would close the circuit again and shut the computer down.
We made a poster with the basic idea of a circuit and some keywords from the project:
