Some friends from Brooklyn NY have returned to their country of origin for a visit: The Czech Republic. We’re due to receive a call from them this afternoon. This creates an opportunity to do some Geography work.
For all geography work, we need to Google Map from home to the area to help visualize geography spatially. It would also be good to do some map work to locate the Czech Republic in Europe using this map. Level 3 would manipulate digitally. Print and color for level 1 & 2. We should save the maps to create a master atlas for all participants and add to them whenever we do Geo Survey.
Here’s the 7Qs for a geographical area — an activity we’ll eventually create called “Geo Survey”.

@etcetera is creating an outline map of this that will be more printer/coloring friendly. Please post to this discussion and we should consider adding it to the Media Wiki Commons since there doesn’t seem to be one there (this would require gathering info about original file, categories, etc).

Czech is a small country that was once half of Czechoslovakia.
It is landlocked in the middle of Europe, Germany sits on its northwest, Poland to the North, and Austria and Hungary to the south.
Mostly people of Czech live in Czech.
They are a democratic nation with a decent economy. They also have a rich history and culture.
The country Czechoslovakia was created in 1918 after the Austria/Hungary empire broke up. During the second world war, they were occupied by nazi Germany. After their liberation, they decided to break up the republic into Czech and Slovakia in 1992.
Czech is a tourist destination and a thoroughly integrated part of Europe.
