For Theme 1: What The Future Holds, we need to do some research into the three types of future visions: Utopian, Incremental, and Dystopian. I’d like you to do the following to complete your research:

    1. Give your own written definition for each type of vision.
    2. Think of your favorite media: books, games, movies, etc. Write a list of these in a reply to this thread and categorize them as U/I/D. Your list MUST contain at least 10 items.
    3. Pick one example for each type of vision from your list and locate some description of the world it presents. For example: a video review or trailer that explains or shows what that future is like, a book description that describes the world of a novel, etc. If you can’t find one for your favorite, make one yourself. Post your results to this thread.

Utopian: A world where everything is perfect, life is good for everyone, and there aren’t any major problems that can’t be solved. (Really hard to find Utopian fiction, because a good story needs tension and tension is hard if there aren’t any problems)

Incremental: A world a lot like ours, there are a lot of problems and we need to solve them, but they can be solved.

    Stormlight Archive

The Stormlight Archive is a perfect example of an incremental world, it has the progression and it takes place during a worldwide crisis, but the reason it’s incremental is because humanity has never been as well equipped to deal with it as they are now. The last time they had to deal with the apocalypse they fought with sticks and stones, now they fight with steel and shards, the problems are solvable, the war can be won, and there is still a chance that they could lose, but they could also win.

    Titan Fall

    Wheel of Time

    Murderbot

    Arch of a Scythe

    John Flanagan’s World

Dystopian: A world where everything is miserable and everyone is cruel either because they want to be, or because they have no choice. All the problems are overwhelming and require outside help to fix.

    Star Wars

    Halo

    War frame

Warframe is a good example because everyone is miserable and trying to kill each other, the grineer are cloned and then sent to die, the corpus are greed incarnated, the infested are horrible, and to top it all off you play as a space ninja whole like nothing more than to kill hundreds of grineer in a single mission. It’s a very good dystopia.

Utopian:a world with no problems no wrongs and peace is everywhere

Incremental:a place with solutions and problems powers at play but still dormant

Dystopian:a world filled with death and war where fighting was daily

my list of books and media:

    StarWars

    WarFrame

    Scythe

    No Man Sky

    Halo

    Lord of the Rings

    Percy Jackson series

    Harry Potter

    Home Alone

    anime

example:Lord of the Rings is Dystopian because there is no where safe and there are bad things everywhere and you cant trust anyone.
