TODO: The Three Types of Future Visions in Emerging Trends
In Theme 1: What The Future Holds, we’re going to talk about how the three types of future visions (Utopian, Incremental, and Dystopian) show up in people’s responses to emerging trends. For example, in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), there are those who think AI will create a paradise for humans where we don’t have to work with machines solve our problems (Utopian). On the other hand, there are those who think the machines will rise up and enslaves us, and the time to stop them is now before they can make a move (Dystopian). There’s also a group somewhere in the middle who believes if humans kind find a way to work with AI, it will solves some problems while creating others (Incremental).
Pick two emerging trends from the list below or your come up with your own:
- AI
- Bioengineering
- Transhumanism
- Climate Change
- Income Inequality
- The Challenge to/Decline of American Global Dominance
- For each trend you choose, find a leader or influencer for each of the three types of future visions: 1 utopian, 1 incremental, 1 dystopian.
- Write a brief description about each leader/influencer and their view. This should include their name, the work they do, and they’re future vision. Consider including a quote that expresses their view.
- Link to video talks, articles, books, or websites were others could discover more.

Utopian: Once again Utopian views on AI elude me.
