The Maintenance Building is the center of preparing Camp space for campers and guest, even though few ever see it.
Maintenance is our symbol for the (LOVE) position on the map of people’s spiritual journey. In order for people to have a spiritual journey, whether they are an adult, young adult, or camper, someone has to get on their level, make space for them, and stick with them no matter what.
Storage
Gracious Love | Being generous on people’s same level
Storage holds many things that were generously donated and graciously given, but these things have to be processed in order to be experienced on the camper and guest level.
The Woodshop
Space-making Love | Making space to nurture and grow people
Every piece of building wood and furniture in Promise Woods (the Summer Camp village) was processed in the Wood Shop, so this is where the spaces of Camp are being made.
The Repair Shop
Loyal Love | Sticking with people despite situation or reception.
When things are broken and worn-out they end up here. But taking care of everyone’s breakage, wear-and-tear, and mess requires loyalty to our staff, campers and guests.
These three types of love, symbolized by the three areas of the Maintenance building are essential to creating a culture at Camp that supports and fuels people’s spiritual journey with Jesus. The goal of this lesson is to explore how we can create that culture within ourselves first.
