Equipping Youth to Serve Christ in the City

Equipping

  • Equipping means to completely train and outfit for battle (Ephesians 6:10-20).
  • Equipping each other manifests Jesus in the Church (Ephesians 4:11-16).

Youth

  • The People of God are commanded to teach the youth (Deuteronomy 4:9-10).
  • God’s vision of the Good News and the Kingdom is revealed intergenerationally, with youth actively growing the Kingdom and stewarding vision (Joel 2:21-32, 1 John 2:12-14).
  • The Ending of the Old Testament: Elders and youth united in heart (Malachi 4:5-6).

to Serve

  • Jesus came to serve (Matthew 20:20-28).
  • Service is the way we fight against evil (Matthew 5:38-42)

Christ

  • Christ means “Anointed One” or “Chosen One”.
  • We are Christians (lit. “little Christs” or “Christ followers”) because we have been chosen by Jesus for his mission (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5; 1 Peter 2:9; 1 John 2:20-21).

in the City

  • We live in the human city with it’s problems brokenness (Genesis 4:3-17, 11:1-9).
  • We look and demonstrate a city designed by God (Hebrews 11:8-10).
  • We are headed to the city of God, the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:9-27).
